Dr. TanYa M. Gwathmey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Hypertension and Vascular Research, and the Cardiovascular Sciences Center at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on racial and gender disparities in the development and progression of hypertension, kidney disease, cardiometabolic disease, and maternal/fetal programming of adult cardiovascular and cardiometabolic diseases. Dr. Gwathmey has a long standing history of research education and training, mentoring and outreach. One of her primary commitments for the past ~15 years has been to increase diversity in the biomedical sciences workforce through the development and direction of several diversity-focused training programs from K-12 through faculty level.
