Dr. Liz M. Díaz Vázquez, a Barranquitas, Puerto Rico native, is an accomplished Analytical Chemistry and Science educator professional. She earned her bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus in 2000, followed by her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 2005.  She has instructed courses spanning General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Instrumental Chemistry, Forensic Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, and Science Communication.  At present, Dr. Díaz serves as a Professor and Director of the Chemistry Department at the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus. Her expertise extends to Environmental Analytical Chemistry research, where she focuses on emerging contaminant detection and sustainable nanomaterials. She is the Director of the Center for Innovation Research and Education in Environmental Nanotechnology (CIRE2N) and Co-Director of PR-SPRINT, a NASA-affiliated student training initiative. Dr. Díaz also coordinates outreach and education at the Center for the Advancement of Wearable Technology (CAWT). Her research contributions encompass methodologies for detecting and mitigating emerging contaminants in Environmental Analytical Chemistry. In Chemistry Education, her focus centers on enhancing research accessibility and refining science communication skills for graduate students and researchers. In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Díaz is actively engaged in various spheres. She contributes to the ACS-Puerto Rico Section Women’s Committee and leads a component of the Vieques Environment Health and Community Action (VASAC) project. Dr. Díaz initiated the Women in Science initiative and holds the Principal Investigator role at the Center for the Advancement of Hybrid Research Experience for Underrepresented Students.
