Shanta has a strong interest in quality education for marginalized individuals and has translated this passion into effective teaching strategies in STEM. She has taught courses in physical science at the secondary level at three of northeast North Carolina’s most impoverished high schools, earning recognition for the growth of student content knowledge. She has lectured physical science, biology, general, and analytical chemistry at the undergraduate level since 2009, during which time she has also taught laboratory science in the disciplines of general, organic, and analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and physical science at historical minority-serving institutions in North Carolina and Brooklyn, New York. She uses her experience to transform courses using relevant research-based and process-oriented inquiry with an introduction to experimental design, responsible conduct of research, and effective presentation, aiming to increase students' critical thinking ability and preparation for advancement in STEM. Shanta has been managing and directing training programs since 2009 as an ambitious, performance-oriented professional with exceptional people skills. As program coordinator of Elizabeth City State University’s MBRS-RISE program, ECSU-Support Program for Academic and Research Enhancement (ESPARE) and their Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) program, and Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, Geology and Physics, Shanta also implemented the department's first-year experience initiative and senior academic advisement. Shanta coordinated and oversaw departmental grant-funded activities, including co-curricular activities, intra- and extramural research of 26 undergraduate scholars, and Summer Enrichment for Rising Freshmen (SERF) program activities for first-year STEM undergraduates. She has also been the program manager of the national science conference, Understanding Interventions that Broaden Participation in Science, executive director of its nonprofit, and the program manager of the former faculty development ADVANCE program and student development RISE program at Long Island University. She oversaw all conference planning, program activities, and outreach at LIU. She also secured and managed multi-million dollar budgets to accomplish all program goals and objectives. Shanta is a results-driven and team-oriented leader with broad experience and hands-on skill in successfully implementing and managing highly effective programs and project management solutions. She expertly analyzes a project's critical needs to increase productivity.
