Changes in Two-Eyed Seeing Among Native Undergraduates in Life and Earth Sciences
Description

The standards of scientific theory and practice are set through the understanding of western education. This research was conducted to understand the changes in Two-Eyed Seeing for Native Students in earth and life sciences. The study uses mixed-methods to develop a broader dataset which includes photo elicitation interviews and surveys. The analysis has shown that the western standards lead to students experiencing a limited ability to excel in STEM fields. As students develop a better understanding of the interplay of Two-Eyed Seeing within their academic identity, they indicate an increased ability to excel within their chosen STEM field. This shows that as multiple epistemologies are taught in Higher Education a more inclusive environment can be created to support non-dominant students.
