PROPEL: a scalable model for postbaccalaureate training to promote diversity in the biomedical workforce
Description
UCSF PROPEL has demonstrated a successful alternative model for postbac programs in which salary support for scholars is sourced through institutional hiring needs, while still offering career development and application support. The PROPEL program has grown rapidly from six scholars in August 2020 to over 100 by August 2023. During that period, 23 scholars matriculated to PhD or MD/PhD programs, with more expected in future cohorts.
