Dr. Anna Ivanova is an Assistant Professor at the Natural Sciences Department at Hostos Community College (HCC), CUNY where she teaches physics and chemistry courses. She is also a Liberal Arts and Sciences_Associate of Science Program Coordinator at HCC. She received her Bachelor and Master Degrees in Physics from the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Tbilisi, Georgia and her Ph.D in Biology (specialty in Biophysics) from TSU / Institute of Molecular Biology and Biological Physics, Georgian Academy of Sciences. She has received postdoctoral trainings at the Institut de Biochimie et Biophysique Moleculaire et Cellulaire, Universite Paris Sud, Orsay, France, and at the Department of Pathology, Molecular Virology Division, Columbia University, New York, USA. Her scientific research background is in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology. Her doctoral research focused on the study of hydrodynamic and thermodynamic properties of various bacteriophages (also known as phages). She continued research on phages during her first postdoctoral training and later, during her postdoctoral training at Columbia University she studied HIV-1 resistant CD4+ T cells. Her current scientific research interest is related to phytoremediation, specifically applying phytoremediation to solve water pollution issue. She is also actively involved in pedagogical research. Dr. Ivanova has published several peer-reviewed articles and presented at numerous scientific and academic venues. She is very passionate about teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
