Dr. Matthew Schwartz is the Senior Program Manager for Faculty Development in the Investigator Career Advancement Program (iCAP) at UMass Chan Medical School. In this role, he designs, manages, facilitates, and evaluates faculty development programs and mentorship activities aimed at enhancing the productivity, satisfaction, retention, and success of early-career research faculty, particularly those from groups historically underrepresented in medicine (URiM). Dr. Schwartz has facilitated over fifty faculty development workshops and presented at regional, national, and international conferences. He is a certified facilitator through the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) and serves as an Inclusive and Reflexive Facilitation Fellow with Ciencia Puerto Rico. Within the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP), he is a member of the Mentorship Committee, a member of the Mentor Training Team, and the founder and convener of the Faculty Development Peer Mentoring Group. He is also a Steering Committee member for the Northeast Network on Faculty Affairs. Deeply committed to fostering inclusive and equitable academic environments, Dr. Schwartz strives to promote a sense of belonging for faculty, staff, and trainees within academia. He holds a BA in Biological Sciences from Northwestern University and a PhD in Genetics and Genomics from Harvard University.
