Dr. Turner-Musa is a Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Psychology. Dr. Turner-Musa earned her doctorate in Social Psychology from Howard University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Mental Health Services from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Turner-Musa recently served as the Director of the Student Training Core in the Morgan State University ASCEND Biomedical Center for Research (2014-2024). She also served as Principal Investigator of the Morgan State University Undergraduate Training Program in Prevention Science funded by the National Institute of Mental Health from 2002 - 2008.
Her research focuses on understanding the role of psychological and social factors in disease management and health promotion. Research includes examining shared family religious/spiritual beliefs on psychological outcomes of African Americans with end-stage renal disease as well as examining the role of religiosity, spirituality, and social support on health behaviors of African American college students. Dr. Turner- Musa’s research also examines factors associated with interests in pursuing biomedical research careers.
Dr. Turner-Musa is a member of several professional organizations including the American Psychological Association (APA) where she served as President for APA Division 1, The Society for General Psychology(2021-2022). She was a participant in the APA Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology (Class of 2014) and the Association of American Colleges & Universities STEM Leadership Institute (Class of 2017).
