Angelica Monarrez, Ph.D., is a Program Evaluator at the Research, Evaluation, and Assessment Services (REAS) Center under the Research & Innovation division at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Dr. Monarrez has a BS in Mathematics and a master’s in statistics and earned a PhD in Teaching, Learning, and Culture with a concentration in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from UTEP in 2017. Previous to starting her role at REAS in spring 2024, she worked as a researcher in various grants funded by the Department of Education, the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She is assisting in evaluating several projects with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies at REAS, including the NIH-funded BUILDing SCHOLARS program. Dr. Monarrez’s research focus is on examining the broadening of participation of underrepresented minorities in STEM.
